According to Kia, the car was "fine tuned on all kinds of roads and in all types of weather conditions" and predicts that "the likely rainfall this weekend will not hinder the Kia's progress" during the race.

Impressively, the Continental Italia team has not modified the 138 horsepower, 2.0-liter diesel engine in preparation for the weekend's grueling race and are ultimately looking to demonstrate the durability of both the car and the tires. All in all, this weekend will surely push the little Kia pro_cee'd beyond its factory endowed limits.

Hyundai is partnering with three aftermarket tuners to highlight their new Genesis coupe and sedan. Last month it was announced that HKS USA, Inc. will build a high-performance Genesis Coupe for the 2008 SEMA show. The all-new, rear-wheel drive Hyundai model will make its 2008 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) debut at the Las Vegas Convention Center November 4 - 7.

“Genesis Coupe has the basic DNA that HKS looks for – an excellent, rear-wheel drive, aggressive styling and a new generation turbo-charged engine. These attributes provide the opportunity for HKS to maximize the Genesis Coupe driving performance capabilities for the serious driving enthusiast,” said Rick Lafferty, president, HKS USA, Inc. “HKS is allocating R&D, engineering and prototyping resources to lay the groundwork for HKS-brand Genesis Coupe . We are looking forward to working with Hyundai to realize the full performance potential of the Genesis Coupe.”

LAS VEGAS — Toyota’s heavy duty diesel truck rumblings are getting louder.

At the Specialty Equipment Market Association show here, Toyota Motor Corp. quietly parked in its display of wild tuner cars the Tundra Diesel Dually, a concept truck that could be the company’s template for its expected entry into the heavy-duty pickup market.

The new Corolla, the 10th generation of the world’s best-selling compact sedan, stays about the same size, but its appeal could be greater because of an expanded lineup.

Time to get outta Dodge and head to Las Vegas for the 2008 SEMA show. Three new Challenger concept vehicles will be under the spotlights at the Dodge booth this year. The new 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT10 with a smokin’ 600 hp Viper V10 engin laying power to the whells. A Dodge Challenger Blacktop, built by the Mopar Underground design team, improved breathing by adding a cat-back dual exhaust, cold air intake to the already hefty 5.7L HEMI® V8. Visual cues are set by the 22 inch Viper wheels, custom spoilers, front brow, and black-on-black racing stripe paint scheme.

Also in the corral this year is the Dodge Challenger Targa which is a all-out competition car that completed the Targa Newfoundlands race this year. The Mopar hood is equipped with a scoop to make room for the 540-horsepower, 490 lb. ft. of torque, 392 HEMI® V-8 Mopar crate motor. Mated to a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox, the engine blasts power to the rear wheels through a production 2009 modified gear ratio in the rear end. Consider that Europe is debating not whether to cut carbon emissions from vehicles but simply when to do it and by how much. The average new car on Europe's roads now emits roughly 160 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer; the European Commission proposed last year to lower that to 130 g/km by 2012. But Europe's carmakers seem likely to have missed a voluntary 2008 target of 140 g/km.

Kia has joined forces with Continental Tires in prepping a race-ready to compete in this weekend's 24 Hours at Nurburgring race.

The Italian team has set a goal to finish the roughly 1,200 mile race using a single set of production-spec ContiSportContact3 tires, rather than track-only racing slicks. Kia states the car is only "barely" modified and will hope to gain an advantage over other competitors by only stopping for fuel and driver changes.
