Roger Federer is hailed as the best ever tennis player of all time and he has the credentials for it. He is world number one for 233 consecutive weeks. Not only that, he has already won a total of 12 Grand Slam Titles. He has 3 Australian Opens, 4 US Opens and 5 Wimbledon titles. Not only that, he has also racked four Tennis Masters Cups and 14 ATP Masters Series titles. He also holds the record of appearing in 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals which started from the 2005 Wimbledon Championships up to the 2007 US Open. He has been named as Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for four years in a row.
He began the 2007 with his 3rd straight Australian Open title. It is also his tenth Grand Slam singles title that he won without dropping any set. His streak of 41 straight matches is broken by Guillermo Canas in the second round of the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells. Guillermo Canas repeated his domination of Federer in the fourth round of the Sony Ericsson Open. During this tournament, he was awarded four ATP awards. This is the first time that a player received four awards in a single year. He started the clay court season by reaching the finals of the Monte Carlo Masters, only to be thwarted by Rafael Nadal. He only reached the third round of the Internazionali d’Italia. This is his longest he has gone without a title since becoming World Number 1.
He broke his losing skid by beating Nadal for the first time in clay at the Hamburg Masters. This ended Nadal’s 81 games winning streak on the clay courts. Nadal avenged this defeat in the French Open by beating Federer in the finals. They met again in the Wimbledon finals but this time Federer won over Nadal. Federer then won the Cincinnati Masters to grab his 50th career title. Then he went on and grabbed the 2007 US Open title. He has also won the US Open Series Points race. He competed in the Tennis Masters Cup and won it despite losing his first round robin match. He played an exhibition match in Seoul against Pete Sampras in which he won.
He welcomed 2008 with a defeat in the semifinals of the Australian Open. This ended his record of consecutive Grand Slam finals appearances to 10, though his record of 15 straight semifinals appearances is still intact. This was followed by a lost in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships. In March he was diagnosed with mononucleosis but his doctors have cleared to compete. At the first Tennis Masters Series event, the Pacific Life Open, he was ousted in the semifinals. He also lost in the quarterfinals of the Sony Ericsson Open to Andy Roddick. His first win of the year came from the Estoril Open. This is his first tournament under a new coach, Jose Higueras. In the Monte Carlo Masters, he lost to Nadal in the finals. Then in the Internazionali d’Italia, he was beaten by Radek Stepanek in the quarterfinals. He met Nadal again in the finals of the Masters Series Hamburg and lost once again. At the French Open, Nadal defeated him in straight sets in the finals. He broke his losing streak by winning the Gerry Weber Open. This is only his second title of the year. At Wimbledon, Nadal beat Federer after an epic 4hours and 48 minutes of play.

World No.1 Roger Federer defeated fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic 6-1 7-5 to win the Cincinnati Masters title on Sunday and cement his status as favourite for the upcoming US Open.Federer set the tone in the second game of the match, when Djokovic saved six break points but still couldn't ward off the break of serve."A good start always helps," said Federer. "That was the case today."When Djokovic finally held serve in the sixth game of the match he could only look at the sky and smile. He presented a tougher challenge in the second set but couldn't capitalise on a set point in the 10th game.Federer earned the key break for a 6-5 lead before serving out the match with a love game."The closest I was going to get to the first-place trophy is now," the fourth-ranked Djokovic said on the court immediately following the match.Federer won his third Cincinnati title after victories in 2005 and 2007. He also captured his 16th Masters crown - second only to Andre Agassi's career total of 17 in the elite series."I felt like my game was already pretty well in place in practice, so knew coming over here it was not just to show up," he said.He turned the tables on Djokovic, who had beaten him in two prior meetings this season.More importantly, the five-time defending US Open champion showed he is on form with the last grand slam of the season scheduled to start at Flushing Meadows on August 31."The fans for me really turned it around, and that's why this year I'm so excited going back there," Federer said. "I've had even better results, so I hope I can again show them what I can do on a tennis court."After capturing the Masters title in Madrid, Federer posted milestone victories at Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year. His first French Open title made him just the sixth man to complete a career grand slam and his triumph over Andy Roddick in an epic Wimbledon final gave him a record 15th career major. After taking a break as he and wife, Mirka, welcomed the birth of twin daughters, Federer then suffered a shock quarter-final defeat at the Montreal Masters against France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. This was his first title since his twins were born last month."That's the special part, especially winning for the first time as a dad," Federer said. "It gets me going emotionally a little bit, because I know it's been a wonderful summer."

tennis player Roger Federer has announced that his girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec is pregnant with their first child. The 30-year-old Vavrinec, who also serves as Federer’s manager, is a former WTA Tour player.
“This is a dream come true for us,” the 27-year-old said in a post to visitors on his website on Thursday. “We love children and we are looking forward to being parents for the first time. Mirka is feeling great and everything is going well.” Ironically in 2007 he was quoted as saying, “Thoughts like family and marriage cross my mind more and more often.” I guess so, since you seem to at least have started the family part.
He also stated his greatest fear was, “accidents, illness or injuries to my loved ones and myself.”. So are you afraid now that Mirka is pregnant, I am guessing it was an accident?
The baby is due in the summer, he added. The couple met at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000.
Unlike Levi Johnston, Federer is not saying he’s going to marry the girl. As you know recently Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter Bristol and her boyfriend, Levi Johnston, have called off their engagement, about 10 weeks after the birth of their child. Federer has not moral feelings to marry a woman he does not love. He is her shawty, a friend with benefits.

Roger Federer met his long-time girlfriend, Mirka Vavrinec, at Syndey 2000 Olympics, when they both were representing Switzerland. And ever since then, they are inseparable. They got married on April 11, 2009. "It was a beautiful spring day and an incredibly joyous occasion," he said. They honeymooned in Monte Carlo.Miroslava (Mirka) Vavrinec was born on First April, 1978 in Bojnice, Slovakia. By the way, Federer was born on 8th August, 1981. Federer was born in Binningen, near Basel, to Swiss national Robert Federer and South Africa-born Lynette Du Rand. When Mirka was 2 years old her family moved to Switzerland. When Mirka was nine, her parents introduced her to game of tennis in Germany. There she met the tennis legend Martina Navratilova. Martina thought the girl hot a nice athletic body and suggested her parents she should try tennis. Martina sent a racquet to Mirka and personally arranged for her to have her first lesson.Martina was right about Mirka, and by 2000, Mirka had become one of the Top 100 players in the world and was a part of the Olympic Switzerland team, which is where she met Federer. She was forced to retire the following year because of an injury to her achilles tendon. She is now his public relations manager.

Now this is in no way a comment about my own girlfriend (who is a super fox), but instead a comment about the usual air-brained blondes who line the seats and luxury boxes at most sporting events. Again, my girlfriend is a super fox.

Victory at Roland Garros saw Roger Federer join an elite group of tenis players. This elite group consists of player who have won all four Grand Slam titles. Federer won his first French Open and completed a career Grand Slam by easing past Sweden’s Robin Soderling 6-1 7-6(1) 6-4.

“It was really not easy to deal with my emotions,” said the 27-year-old Roger Federer. ”It’s maybe my greatest victory, or certainly the one that removes the most pressure off my shoulders,” Federer said. “I think that now and until the end of my career, I can really play with my mind at peace, and no longer hear that I’ve never won Roland Garros.”
Federer could have completed his career Grand Slam as early as 2006, when he reached the first of his four French Open finals, but one man stood in his way. A mountian he could not seem to conquer. World number one Rafeal Nadal. He lost to Nadal in the three previous finals. He now has 14 grand slams to his belt, matching living ledgend Pete Sampras.
“To me, he is the best player in history,” the Swede Robin Soderling said after the match.
A teary Federer received a standing ovation from the 15,000-strong crowd.
Pete Sampras said Roger Federer would go down as the greatest tennis player in history. “What he’s done over the past five years has never, ever been done – and probably will never, ever happen again,” Sampras said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “Regardless if he won there or not, he goes down as the greatest ever. This just confirms it.”

Here are pics from match I ended on Sunday, March 16, between Roger Federer and Guillermo Garcia Lopez. This was my first time seeing Roger play. Gigi probably didn’t push him to his best tennis, but the Spaniard put up a good fight.
