Tiger's new cub is the spitting image of her superstar daddy.
The world's No. 1 golfer, Tiger Woods, made the most of his paternity leave this week by posing for photographs with his newborn daughter, Sam Alexis, and stunning model wife, Elin Nordegren.
Sam gets her looks from her father, as the photographs clearly show. The pair share the same nose, dark hair and long fingers — perhaps a sign of her natural golfing prowess?
"This is truly a special time in our lives," Woods, 31, wrote in a statement he released with the photographs of his growing family.

Tiger Woods is becoming more appealing to advertisers as he ages — the fact that he's a family man with baby Sam Alexis has humanized this once-robotic superstar.

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -- World No. 1 golfer Tiger Woods has found himself a girlfriend in Jesper Parnevik's former nanny Elin Nordegren, the Swedish daily newspaper Aftonbladet reported on Wednesday. "Elin is precisely what Tiger needs to get some stability in his life. They are a perfect match," the tabloid quoted Swedish professional golfer Jesper Parnevik as saying. "They have been in love for a long time but they became a couple only recently," he added. Nordegren, 22, worked as a nanny for Parnevik's four children in Florida for 18 months. Parnevik introduced her to Woods, 26, at the 2001 British Open tournament and she recently quit her job to travel full time with the American, said the report.

Editors at The Dubliner apparently didn't know that phony photos purporting to be the golf great's sexy, 26-year-old Swedish spouse have been floating around the Internet for years.
Clueless Dubliner columnist Lou Slips thought they were real — and used them as an excuse to write a scathing personal attack on Tiger and the other U.S. golfers, who have gathered in Ireland for the biennial America vs. Europe tournament.
"Most American golfers are married to women who cannot keep their clothes on in public," Slips declared under the headline: "Ryder Cup Filth for Dublin?"
The intensely private Woods is reportedly "appalled" by the baseless slam, according to the U.K. Daily Mail, which broke the story.
When the attack article ran, Woods and many of the other U.S. players and their wives had already arrived in Dublin for Friday's tee-off.
The "Filth" layout included a nude pic allegedly of the lithe Nordegren — but really of a D-cup model who looks more like Pamela Anderson.
Despite the obvious fakery, Slips declared that Woods' wife "can be found in a variety of sweaty poses on porn sites across the Web."
Woods wasn't the only American pro golfer to see his wife slimed.
The mag also ran a shot of golfer David Toms' wife, Sonya, clad in a teeny white bikini, and quoted her as saying she finds it "liberating" to wear at home.
Chad Campbell's wife, Amy, was derided as a "large-chested singer who entered 'American Idol' but didn't get anywhere."
Slips then insinuates that "geeky" Jim Furyk's wife, Tabitha, married him for his money.
"Isn't there a law against people like this?" he finishes the sarcastic column.
No one at The Dubliner could be reached for comment. Woods' spokesman, Mark Steinberg, declined to comment.
The K Club — which is both the site of the tournament and the place where the Americans are staying — has reportedly banned The Dubliner from the premises.

My #9 pick is Tiger Woods. Who knows what he’s like in person, but he seems nice, says the right things, has a competitive drive and insane talent, a beautiful wife and child, another on the way (I love family men), and I think my grandpa would have liked him. And looking at him isn’t bad either.

Tiger Woods celebrated his 31st birthday Saturday by sharing some of his biggest news of the year — his wife is expecting their first child this summer.Obviously, we couldn’t be happier and our families are thrilled,” Woods said on his Web site. “I have always wanted to be a dad. I just wish my father could be around to share the experience.”
Woods and Elin Nordegren of Sweden married in October 2004, and Woods has said that he wanted children sooner instead of later. He did not say when in the summer the baby is due, although it likely would be between the U.S. Open and British Open.

As the British open gets under way, the epic battle is about to begin as the new course debuts and the world prepares to witness Tiger Woods vs. Turnberry. Turnberry is regarded as one of the more difficult course, longer and more challenging than most. Broadhurst and his playing partners, Michael Campbell and the 1989 Open Champion, Mark Calcavecchia, all parred the 35-yards opening hole at Scotland's Turnberry links as benign conditions greeted today's early starters...

The golf world can breathe a huge sigh of relief with Tiger Woods back in the tournament mix. While Phil Mickelson’s win on Sunday made for some must-see television, Woods’ presence at the WGC Accenture match play gives the sport a major headline on weekend where the tournament could be the biggest story out there.
Assuming Tiger makes it to the weekend (which, at the time, seems to be the biggest question mark of all), golf could grab a lion’s share of the television ratings. ESPN is dedicating their entire front page to the story, as are most of the other major sport websites. Finchem and Co. better pray to the heavenly golf gods that the knee holds up. If it does, then it’s game on for the golfing world.

Each week here at the Toy Department, two Baltimore Sun staffers will engage in a segment we like to call The Conversation, where they'll swap e-mails with one another and debate something that is in the news. Today, Kevin Van Valkenburg and Rick Maese discuss whether Tiger Woods will win the Masters (he tees off today at 1:52 p.m.), and why some scribes are ready to hand him the green jacket before he tees off.
So, my friend, the Masters begin today, one of our favorite sporting events of the entire year, and I must confess, I'm having a little bit of deja vu. Every Masters, it seems, we're told that it looks like THIS year really could be the year that the planets align and Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson finally have that legendary duel we've always anticipated but never quite seen materialize. Will it finally happen this time?
A few years ago, I floated the theory that if you like Tiger, you're a Beatles guy, because he represents excellence and arrogance (John), creativity and artistry (Paul), risk-taking and the fierce desire for privacy (George) and he's kind of a goofy-looking guy who married a babe (Ringo). And if you like Mickelson (who, by the way, married UP too), then you're an Elvis guy, because as talented as he is, and as fun as he is to watch, he's also self-destructive and flawed in a way that inspires both loyalty, even when he goes all Heartbreak Hotel on the 72nd hole, but also snarky jokes. Every year we want to see them go up against one another, and every year, one of them is just a little off his game. I so want to see it happen but I suspect I'll be let down yet again by one of them. Since you're a big Beatles fan, let me throw this to you: Why are so many people already more or less conceding the tournament to Tiger? That kind of hyperbole drives me insane when it comes to him. I know he has four green jackets, and he stole a win from Sean O'Hair at Bay Hill two weeks ago, but he hasn't won at Augusta since 2005, and he's only won one green jacket in the last six chances. Sure, he's a smart pick, a safe pick, but to act like it's a foregone conclusion is absurd. To jump from music analogies to comic books, Tiger isn't Superman, despite what some people would like you to believe. He's more like Batman. He's going to do remarkable things, but he's also going to take his licks sometimes, too. He's not invincible. (Yet Sports Illustrated is writing this week -- as if it's a real possibility -- that he could tie Jack Nicklaus' record if he wins the Grand Slam this year. Puh-leaze.)
The Masters has changed since Tiger used to tear up the course in the early part of this decade. The rough (excuse me, secondary cut) makes a big difference, and if you're not accurrate with the driver, you're going to have a tough time. I actually think Mickelson and Tiger are both going to let us down this year. They'll hang around the top 10, but neither will be in the final group on Sunday. (Tiger will have one round where he shoots 73 and the CBS crew will stumble all over itself making excuses for him.) I've never been down to Georgia to smell the azaleas or walked the emerald green hills of the National, and since you have, I'm wondering if you could describe the experience a little so I can live vicariously through you. Is it as awe-inspiring as we make it out to be? And do you think the tournament is less fun than it used to be without the back-nine birdie charges? Since I've already written off Tiger and Phil, let me throw this out there: my pre-tournament pick is Geoff Ogilvy, the smooth-putting Australian. Not exactly going out on a limb, since he seems to be the trendy dark-horse outside the obvious duo, but anyone else you think can make a run? I predict this e-mail exchange will be a tradition unlike any other,

- Tune in to the U.S. Open now as Tiger is 2-under through eight for the day and just two strokes off of the lead after starting five behind at mid-day. There is a lot of good golf going on right now and Woods is charging up the leaderboards. Also, Oakmont Country Club is in absolutely exquisite condition this weekend and might be the most well prepared course for a U.S. Open that I can remember in recent history. Kudos to their greens keepers…
- The Cincinnati Reds lost to the Texas Rangers last night by a final score of 6-7 on a Sammy “‘Roids’n'Corks” Sosa Grand Slam off of Matt Belisle. Despite the loss and with these trade rumors the past couple days, Adam Dunn is really playing well and it seems as if he is auditioning for something. “Dunner’s” line the past four games since the trade rumors fired up:
9-18, .500 BA, 4 RBIs, 2 Runs
Dunn hitting for average? We ought to tell him he’s getting the axe more often…
- Tomorrow is Father’s Day, so everyone who has a father, here is a friendly reminder to send a card, place a phone call, or relinquish the remote control. If you are a father, well it is your day so play a round of golf, maintain possession of the remote control and force the youngin’s to watch the “Rambo Marathon” all day, get drunk, and just generally don’t take shit from anyone, kids included.
Not much today other than the U.S. Open consuming my life right now, so I thought I would drop a small note. The “Hottie World Series” will continue through the weekend and beyond, ought to be entertaining. Also, the NASCAR preview will be up in the morning and there will hopefully be another edition of “The Sports Shorts” by weekend’s end or early next week. There is a third offering of “You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me” on the horizon about the ongoing Jason Giambi versus Bud Selig saga and my position on the matter might surprise you. As always, stay tuned!

Chaska, MN – Tiger Woods is without a doubt one of the most dominant athletes to ever live. Alongside greats such as Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky, and Michael Jordan, Woods has come to define the sport and has firmly established himself as theembodiment of golf itself. Once virtually undefeatable, Woods has begun to show his humanity in recent years with injuries and losses mounting in ways once unthinkable. Still though, Tiger Woods is likely the most dominant player that has ever and will ever pick up a golf club.
Seeming to regain some of the glory from his younger days, Woods showed total dominance at Hazeltine until the end when he was bested by the 110th ranked player in the world, Y.E. Yang. Aside from the embarrassment of losing to such an unheralded player, Woods has become increasingly uncomfortable with his appearance as a normal player and is reportedly considering dropping out of the PGA tour entirely if he continues to lose. Though many believe his the threat a knee jerk reaction to the startling loss, insiders indicate that the golfing great has been considering such radical action for a number of years now, and that this loss might just be his breaking point.
“Look, to be great you have to have a great ego and people like that hurt all the more when they fall. They feel losses much more significantly than lesser players and they are beset by this feeling that they have never had to experience before, namely losing. Tiger is like all great athletes; He revels in victory and the defeat of others so being on the losing side is a difficult thing to take,” said our insider. “He’s really just sick of it. He feels like he has done so much for the sport and for the Association and now he is being dealt loss after loss. He feels unappreciated and just plain angry with the way he is being treated and I think his threat is a lot closer to real than many people think.”
It’s not clear what options Woods would have should he leave the PGA which is the most dominant golfing league in the world. It’s also not clear what PGA officials would or would not be willing to do in order to retain their biggest star.
“The simplest thing would be to give him a couple strokes advantage in every tournament but that would be a little too transparent. The sticky part of this is that whatever they do has to be seen as fair to the other players otherwise they will show the favouritism that they obviously have. That will anger the other players but will also turn into anger from the fans, which no one wants,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “Another option would be akin to what happened with Muhammad Ali later in his career. They could pair him against lesser talent more consistently and while that won’t guarantee victory, as we saw at Hazeltine, it will give him a better chance of pulling down more victories.”
Other players have complained about Woods in the past claiming that his dominance on the course has made it difficult for them to win tournaments and thus the lucrative purses awarded for victories. Many are viewing this new development as a kind of just desserts for the man who has taken so much money from their pockets.
“The other option, and perhaps the most viable one, would be to silently drug the other players. By intoxicating them with some kind of subtle drug they could induce lesser play and put Woods in a position to win a lot more easily. That could of course bring up all sorts of ethical issues but at least it will make Tiger happy,” continued Marvins. “Ultimately it befits the PGA to have Tiger win as much as possible as well. He is the biggest draw they have ever had and keeping him happy has to be their top priority. People like to see Tiger Woods win as much as he likes doing it.”
It’s not clear whether the PGA would use some sort of prescribed medication to drug other players or would lean towards street products such as GHB and Acid.

We hate to be redundant and offer two posts in a row focused on golf, but this entry can be filed under human interest – in the sense that if you’re a human, you’re probably interested to know that Tiger Woods is back. Tiger announced today that his return to the PGA Tour, after a ten month absence to repair his left leg, will be this weekend at the World Golf Championship Accenture Match Play Championship held at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Marana, Arizona. Everyone knows the story by now – how, on one leg, he eagled and birdied on command, won his 3rd U.S. Open, and turned Rocco Mediate into a household name. You will be spared the details. But many critics are questioning his decision to make his triumphant return at this event. How is his leg? Is he 100%? Why return for a match play event? Will he be prepared mentally?
Here is a quick summation.
His leg is fine. In fact, it’s now bionic. The doctors have installed a chainsaw so that he may quickly and thoroughly remove any trees that might hinder his ball flight.
He can be 75% and still be 100% ahead of the rest of the tour. Personally, I think we’ve seen Tiger play at 100% only twice. The 1997 Masters, where he dominated the field by 12 strokes, and the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach – a runaway 15 stroke victory. He found these wins boring and has since decided to “back it off a bit.”
He is returning for the match play format in order to scrape the rust off. The beauty of match play is that he is playing only one opponent at a time and not the entire field. He can reasonably take a double bogey on a hole and still be in a match. Also, expectations are low because of the layoff, so a first round exit would have little to no affect on his confidence. Furthermore, if he plays well, his day may be shortened by closing an opponent out prior to the 18th hole. Oh, and also of slight importance might be the fact that, since Buick pulled their sponsorship of the greatest living athlete, his primary sponsor is now Accenture – the title sponsor of the event.
Of course he’s going to be prepared mentally. It’s Tiger Woods! To all the critics out there, follow one of my rules of life on this one: never bet against a guy whose caddy has an endorsement deal with Tag Heuer.
