Does an example need be made of Julian Assange, to set an example to others?

Does an example need be made of Julian Assange, to set an example to others?
We must be relentless in our per suit of Julian Assange, to hold him responsible for espionage, and to try that American Soldier who supplied him with stolen cables for Treason.

We must set an example so extreme as to possibly dissuade others from even considering the same thing.

If we cannot extradite him to America for espionage charges, then should he be "disappeared"?. I'm rather partial to that old poison in the umbrella trick.
